About Summer Courses at Dreaming Spires

Our summer classes are great for homeschoolers who are preparing for high school in the US or exams in the UK, a chance to sample a subject before doing a deep dive for the coming year.

All courses will meet an hour weekly for six weeks. There will be the usual reliance on living books and some homework to ensure good participation, and at the end a certificate will be awarded.

Survive & Thrive: Treasure Island

Set sail on an unforgettable six-week online adventure where classic literature meets real-world survival and business skills! Using Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson as our guide, we’ll navigate the wild world of pirates, hidden treasure, and high-stakes decision-making. Along the way, we’ll learn survival skills inspired by Bear Grylls, uncover the secrets of trade and economics, and discover what it takes to be a great leader, risk-taker, and entrepreneur. Whether you’re outsmarting a mutiny, bartering for supplies, or pitching a million-dollar idea, this course will challenge you to think, adapt, and thrive. Are you ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime?

Who Teaches Entrepreneurship?

Helen Harrold completed her Economics degree at Lancaster University and then did a post graduate teaching qualification. She currently tutors GCSE maths, AP Economics and is a UK consultant for an American high school program . Whilst living in the UK, she has homeschooled her own 7 children using the American curriculum: so has straddled both the UK and US systems.
